Beyond the Niche: How Designing for a Different Industry Strengthens My Brand Expertise

As a brand designer, I specialize in working with female owned small businesses, crafting brand and web designs that make an impact. But every so often, a project comes along that falls outside of my typical niche, yet still pushes me creatively and strengthens my expertise.

I often have the opportunity to design a visual brand projects for The Movement Church, and while they aren’t my target client on paper, I use these opportunities as a chance to flex my creative muscles, refine my process, and deliver a strategic, visually compelling brand while serving the church I know and love.

Stepping Outside the Comfort Zone

Every industry has its own design language. My expertise lies in crafting sophisticated, approachable brands that resonate with women business owners—but this project challenged me to step into a different visual world. I had to research industry trends, understand the audience’s expectations, and still bring a fresh, modern approach that felt authentic to the message.

Balancing Strategy with Creativity

A well-designed brand isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about strategy. Even though this project was outside my niche, my process remained the same: diving deep into the mission, defining a clear visual direction, and ensuring the final identity was both beautiful and functional. Whether I’m designing for a wellness coach, a boutique owner, or a spa startup, my goal is always to create a brand that stands out and connects with the right audience.

Why This Matters for My Clients

This project reinforced that great design transcends industry boundaries. My ability to adapt to different business needs means that, no matter the client, I bring a level of strategic thinking and visual storytelling that ensures their brand is strong, cohesive, and built to grow with them.

Even if this project doesn’t directly reflect the types of businesses I typically work with, it showcases my range, expertise, and ability to deliver exceptional results—something that benefits every future client I collaborate with.

Takeaways for Your Brand

If you’re in the process of building or refreshing your brand, this project is proof that strategic design makes all the difference. Whether you’re in my usual niche or not, my approach remains the same: thoughtful, intentional, and designed for impact.
